( Green Mountain Breakfast Blend)
on my window bench, and I could
not help but reflect on all the wonderful
memories that our ornaments on our kitchen
tree has brought to me...
Take this one..this was taken a couple years ago
while celebrating another grandchild...we were
sew excited to be grandparents... ( this was our 4th)
This one from a dear colleague-
we sipped over many cups of coffee
reading clinical papers through the years.
She gifted this to me as a reminder..
It sew fills my cup per say lol
This from a dear friend who was my
illustrator for "our" nutrition book..
I think she thought I was a bit bossy
through the process..I laughed sew much
when I saw this, and still today...because
it is sewwwwwwwww true...
( the better ideas part) lol
This was from my husband who somehow
managed on his own to size our book on wee
Kermit here, a reminder of one of our most
successful journeys as authors...
OHHH this one I shall never forget, the year was 2007...
How Hallmark knew enough to design a toaster that year
is beyond me....HOWEVER it was perfect.
I got up this cold October morning, and placed
some english muffins in my toaster...when I heard
some movement....I looked inside the toaster
and there was an itty bitty mouse...I SCREAMED
as only a woman can do, David came rushing downstairs...
" GET that toaster out of the house NOW".....
That day we went out and purchased a 4 slicer....
I never wanted to be reminded of that morning again..
OK, now this brings a smile...cause David found
this toaster as an ornament that year...
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh this one I love
another one of my colleagues and I exchanged
gifts every year. She always thought I was
such a girly girl, ( which of course I am..)
and gave this to me, said it reminded her of me...
Ahhhhhh
Starting to see a theme here...coffee,
One of my very dear male friends owned a coffee
shop, Timothy's...my fav hang out before work.
He gifted this to me one year as I was obsessed with
snowman pins....I love this one, still brings a smile to this day...
When we moved from the big city to this very small town
and built ourselves a small bungalow in 2008, this Hallmark
ornament came out...A perfect reminder of the next chapter
of our life....How sweet it has been..
There are hundreds more, but I have some Christmas
stitching to do today, and I just wanted to share a little
:ME: with you.....
What is your favorite ornament?
Do you get a new one every year?

44 Your COMMENTS here, uplift me.:
Loved seeing your ornaments and the little stories. I love unpacking ours and thinking things over as I unwrap each one. My favorite two were on my very first Christmas tree, so they are old old old now! One is a snowman and the other is a little figure skater. Apparently at one time there were two skaters, a boy and girl, but as a terrible two year old I destroyed the boy! We get at least a couple new ornaments every year, and I have made quite a few over the years.
Lovely memories... and one of my favorite parts of Christmas, too! :)
Lovely Samm. What memories you have! I found a box a few years ago as we cleaned out my in-laws home, and found all my MIL's old ornaments from the 50's and 60's. They have been added to our tree and bring back memories of many Christmas mornings shared with them and all their grandkiddies. I've also given one of her ornaments to each of their grandchildren...fond memories indeed.
Thanks for sharing a little bit of you, Samm! My family exchanges handmade ornaments each year. Christmas ornaments hold lots of memories.
I so enjoyed your ornaments....
Mine are the ones my boys made for me when they were young.
I really enjoyed seeing some of your precious ornaments and reading the stories behind them. I've given my kids ornaments every year for about 15 years. All are handmade - which are really hard to find. I also have 4 glass ornaments from the year my parents were married which are very precious to me.
Oh how I love hearing the stories behind the ornaments. When 2nd husband and I married (our spouses are deceased), our children were all "grown and gone" and just starting to accumulate their own ornaments - we shared all of our ornaments with them - they had made a lot of them over the years. They have become the keepers of the memories and we so enjoy seeing them on their trees. Our tree is now white with all red ornaments and we no longer collect. Sweet wishes dear Samm. Judy C
What cute ornaments Samm. Thanks for sharing with us! I have a few that friends have made for me, that are very special. I don't always buy a new one, but some years I do.
Such wonderful memories connected to each ornament! We used to get a new ornament each year, usually picked up on vacations. Now there are years we don't even put up a tree. My favorite ornaments are the ones my girls made in grade school - so precious and full of all kinds of memories.
I love all your ornaments. It's fun to look back at all those memories!!
Samm, what a sweet post. Thanks for sharing a part of you. Hope you have a wonderful day today. I'm taking a sip of my coffee and thinking of you...
Such sweet ornaments, and precious stories...I am in awe of his making the tiny book for Kermit to hold - I noticed right away it was your book! Thanks for sharing this today. I loved reading it - and yes, you shine through, Samm. Each one is so "you" at least what little I know of you! LOL
My fav ornament is a tiny wooden chair and a little girl made of straw, sitting on it. We bought it on our honeymoon - had next to nothing as far as money, but we told each other we had what we needed - our love, each other, and a tiny roof over our heads! The little ornament always makes us remember our start...we're still not rich, but oh, so blessed!
Great stories...The mouse in the toaster! FUNNY! My favorite one has to be,
"I am not bossy, I just have better ideas...."
Ha, ha, ha. Ho, ho, ho. Giggle, snort....
My coffee is extra good this morning....Just cuz I can't drink a cup without thinking of you. =)
Oh my, what a wonderful post this morning, Samm. I loved it! So touching and personal and making us all think of our own treasures this time of year. Have a wonderful day......and thank you for the reminder to ponder everything good!
My Grandmother used to make new ornaments for her granchildren (all 30 of us) each year. When she passed in 85 my Mother began to make them for us. Mom either made or bought for my children each year till she passed in 2005, I have since rried to get my kids one each year that fits them... bought them last year and forgot to give them to the kids! oops!!
Memories are a gift. May they mostly be happy ones. Merry Christmas Samm!
Beautiful way to start the morning...thank you!!! To be perfectly honest here, to date my favorite ornaments are each of my daughters first Christmas ornaments seeing as how I believed I'd never have children... They and the memories are precious. :). Thank you so much for sharing a part of you... A true gift!
What a lovely post, and the music just makes me smile along! Your ornament memories are precious. Our favorite ornaments at our house are the ones from Baby's First Christmas...we have two children (young adults now) and they always look for those ornaments when the tree goes up. Thanks for the memories!
I SEW enjoyed your blog today about Christmas ornaments. I'm bonkers over ornaments and their stories! My oldest (and a dear one) is one my dad bought as a teenager - it's about 95 years old. But...I love the silver bells my girls made for me; they are egg cartons cut apart, covered with aluminum foil, and strung together with yarn. :) The many special ornaments Mom and Dad gave me over the years are wonderful, too. My husband doesn't understand my obsession and is surprised when I can tell him who gave them and when I received them. Memories, memories, sweet, caring, a bit of sadness, but all filled with love. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Loved your sharing with us! We like to get a new ornament each year to represent something we did that year. I also like to put a picture of each child each year on a special tree. Merry Christmas!
lovely ornaments and stories thanks for sharing. I have a big box of ornaments downstairs from family vacations when i was younger. They don't go on the tree anymore. However, i still put my sisters first Christmas stocking on the tree. She died 1 day before her 1st Christmas so its just my way of saying i still think of her some 20+ years later.
Beautiful post Samm and, as usual, beautiful pictures. We don't add new ornaments - there's literally no more room for ornaments on our tree since we have a tree that's a little smaller than we did years ago. Most of mine have memories associated with them - it amazes Jerry as we put them on that I can tell him where we got them and when. Many are things our children made when they were young. I've offered to let them take their own but they want them to stay here as long as Jerry and I have a tree - my kids are very sentimental. :) blessings, marlene
Is that a complete picture of the beautiful Samm??? Nothing to hide that beautiful face? What a nice Christmas gift! I can still recall each ornament when, where, and why we got it plus each child that made the precious homemade ornaments. The Macaroni star has long decayed from age, made by our son in K, but now time for another generation to make a Star for the top of Grandmama 7 PaPaw's tree. Blessings

Hi Samm. There really is some "you" in each of those unique and wonderful ornaments. Thank you for sharing their stories.
Love your ornaments, especially the snowman saying no to coffee. Being in the South, we don't have the snow that you do, but at least once or twice during the winter, we have a little snow, but more often it is accompanied by lots more ice. I collect snowmen. Snowmen of all sizes, from tiny little window sitters to some big ones. They tend to stay out longer than the other Christmas decorations.

Hi Madame Samm
Love reading about and seeing your Christmas ornaments. Like you, mine always make me recall wonderful memories, especially of the old ones of my mothers, some from WWII. I love vintage and treasure those . But also love the ones my children made when they were little guys.
My eldest son sent me my current favorite a few years ago. A stage with the characters from "A Charlie Brown Christmas" complete with the soundtrack . I just love it as it was a favorite on TV every Christmas that we watched together.
Loved reading about your ornament treasures. I love the ones my boys made when they were in grade school....they are in their 20s now. I also love the ones that relate to our travels when my husband was active duty Air Force. The washi paper covered eggs I made in Japan and the washi paper cranes I bought because they were so much better than the ones I constructed. The Polish pottery ornaments bought on a trip to Poland with some girlfriends make me smile because I remember staying up late into the night laughing so hard I thought I'd faint cause I couldn't catch my breath fast enough. Ahh...so many more stories....it's so good to remember them as I put them on the tree.
Love your ornaments! My favorites are from blog friends. Oh and a certain, cheap one made of stickers and foam but very special...Stephen's first ornament that he made. We just made it today and it was so fun for us!
Oh, I just loved this post, please go on and show more!!!This is one of the magical parts of Christmas, the traditions and the memories. I also have many special ornaments "new" ones and old from my childhood. Ones the kids made and bells. My tree is always covered in bells for you know "every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings"
I especially like the snowman one, made me giggle. Thanks for sharing these Samm!
I especially like the snowman one, made me giggle. Thanks for sharing these Samm!
lovely post!
bon week
I just love when you share memories of your life. This is such a great post. Thank you. One of my favorite ornaments is the angel my daughter was given for her 1st Christmas. It brings such fond memories. I keep thinking I'll give it to her for her tree, yet I still keep holding on to it. (that was almost 48 years ago!)
Happy Sunday, Samm! I loved reading this post and all the comments. One of my favorites is your toaster ornament and the story behind it. That gave me a chuckle.
May you and yours enjoy this special time of year.
Hugs, Karen
Loved this blog Samm.I love the key so cute, the toaster too.The story made me laugh as well.ha
My favorite ornament would have to be my girls handmade ones. They are so very special.
Blessings!
I so enjoyed reading a bit about you and your precious ornaments. I love the memories that are attached to each of them. So wonderful! One of the trees that I put up is nothing but handmade ornaments. Not one bought ornament is on it. When I put each and every one on the tree, I think of who made it, I can remember where I lived, and so many other memories come to mind.
Thank you for sharing a bit of you with us!
Thanks for sharing your special ornaments and the stories behind them. Very cool... I don't know that I have a favorite ornament myself - My husband and I collect Star Trek and Star Wars ornaments - we buy one of each every year and we alternate years between the two franchises - which ones we display that year. I love plugging in the tree and having all the ornaments talking or making music at once - so funny!
Oh what a lovely post. Even other peoples memories can make me teary. My tree has lots of memories too.
Samm, I love this post. When I was first married and when my children were little, we collected new ornaments every year. For years we had to pack some away because our tree was about to explode. But since we've moved into our new home, we now have TWO trees and can enjoy the sweet memories of Christmas past. Thanks for sharing your beautiful memories with us.
Beautiful ornaments. I don't buy ornaments for myself every year but I do buy them for my daughters every year! Especially the blown glass ones with something "Chicago" on them - or a special place in Europe - to remind them of their special trip they took a few years ago! My favorite ornaments are the blown glass ones my daughter brought back from Geneva, Switzerland! Love, love, love Christmas and the reason for the Season!
What a fun, fun post this was...and so sweet! When we made the move from our sticks & bricks house to our RV home, I had to pare down on everything, including Christmas tree ornaments. Luckily the kids took most of what I couldn't. That makes the ones I kept all the more special. They are all my favorites! :)
I love Christmas ornaments and your stories!
My tree has all felt ornaments. Most are hand made.
I spent this afternoon making felt hand ornaments of my Grand kid's hands. They are age 7 weeks to 13 years old. Those ornaments are so Q-ute!
I love your ornaments. Kermit is my favorite. I used to buy new ornaments for the kids each year, now it's for the grandkids...this year two, next year there will be three. Maybe I should buy a special one for hubby and me. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks Samm.
I love all your ornaments. I do the same thing, remember the person or the time or the place that each one represents. I love seeing them each year. Yes I do buy new ornaments every year. Actually I have to fight myself hard to limit it. I'm starting to run out of space on the tree. But I do buy a few for the kids each year so that when they are grown and have a tree of their own, they will have lots of great ornaments to decorate it with.
I collect ornaments each year. I have a small tree with mouse ornaments and snowman ornaments. I recently got hooked on coffee themed ornaments.
I'm a few days off...giggle...but I just wanted to say that I LOVE this post!
